As part of the Independent Commission on Neighbourhood’s (ICON) commitment to hearing from communities around the country, Baroness Hilary Armstrong (ICON chair), Commissioners and Secretariat are conducting regular visits to inform the Commission’s work.
The Commission’s recently visited Blackpool, where the team were welcomed by local community organisations and senior leaders from the public sector.
We visited Revoelution Community Hub, which was assigned £1 million in 2014 by the Big Lottery Community Fund, as part of the Big Local funding programme.
Revoelution Community Hub was established by the Revoelution Partnership, a resident-led group with the aim of making Revoe a better place to live, work, and visit.
The ICON team met with local residents and volunteers at Revoelution, who spoke about their experiences since the Community Hub opened. Residents expressed a change of perceptions in the neighbourhood since the hub opened, they felt it had helped them to build connections in their areas.
We heard how the Hub has given people a sense of belonging and an opportunity to develop new skills and deal with local issues as a community.
ICON also met senior leaders from Blackpool Council, Blackpool and The Fylde College, local charities and Chris Webb MP. We are grateful to everyone involved in hosting the Commission’s visit.
