The Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods (ICON) visited Bishop Auckland last week, as part of its commitment to hearing from communities around the country.
ICON Chair Baroness Hilary Armstrong was joined by Commissioner Matt Leach, and members of the ICON Secretariat. The group met with fellow ICON Commissioner and Mayor of North East England Combined Authority, Kim McGuinness, and Sam Rushworth, MP for Bishop Auckland.
The group visited the Auckland Youth and Community Centre where they had the chance to speak with local residents, helping Bridge Creative to see the work being carried out in the community to build relationships and trust. ICON also had the opportunity to visit TradesforCare to see their brilliant work connecting young people with apprenticeships.
In the afternoon, we visited the Auckland Project for a policy and evidence session with local stakeholders and community groups.
Thank you to everyone involved in making the visit happen and to everyone that shared their views with us.
